A really terrific way to put it.

And, of course (to extend the analogy), you can be sober enough to carry on a pretty clear-headed conversation while your judgement is *still* sufficiently impaired that you shouldn't be driving a car...sober in some ways or for some purposes, not sober in other ways or for other purposes.
